MOLLY JOSEPH

We Are One...

despite the

            difference

we celebrate

         making grounds

to segregate

            we are one!

we, the multihued

                rainbow

the marvel

             of the sky,

the many

             coloured

flowers

                the flora

and fauna

in the organic

       flow of things...

life pulsates

         on needs and.

feeds

         the essentials

the cosmic

          chain offers...

foolish are

                  we humans

vying with each

              to dominate

appropriate

                the undue...

the bounty

               of nature

equal for all...

let warring

                  minds

treat all

                on a par

with each...

beneath

              the skin,

we all the same

          all partakers

of this

                 sojourn

on earth...

Let us

            hold hand

to dance,

     dance our way

savouring

             moments.

life is short

                  sweet

not to be

             taken for

granted...

Homeless...

   ....

I search for home

stranded

in a homeless world...

they behold with disdain,

suspicion...

each search for an abode

ends up, volleys of questions!

'You,

 colured?

how coloured you are

black, tanned, brown?

bearded?

what religion

you belong

Islam, Christian, Hindu?

why such

questions!

funny!

questioning my dignity as a human.

You treat me as dirt

though you put me

to use, full as

an immigrant worker...

Now new rules

you create

curbing our freedom to move

ousting us from our abodes, shelters, temporary...

see I am a human...

You and me the same!

beneath the difference skin deep, we breathe the same air, drink the same water

we laugh and cry the same...

we the inheritors of an earth

that spreads for all

all around...

why divide it,

demarcate it with narrow

national divides!

my place of birth

has nothing to offer, save poverty, abject misery, inadequacy!

I wander in vain

In search of a home...

where will I get my

legitimate space

as a human, hardworking...

O, world! can't you open your eyes

to watch us, the scattered lambs in search of grass, straying

knocking on fences of

of meadows

barbed, wired

that deny the green...
