THOSE EYES CONTAIN A UNIVERSE FAR
BEYOND
Those eyes contain a universe far
beyond
what surrounds her. Regally she
sits in
patterned blue coat, dark hair
covering a
shoulder, present but contemplating
a clandestine place she beholds
with
her steady gaze. What wonders must
await there! Tell me what you see,
that I might share in secret glory!

THE MID-LEVEL FEDERAL MANAGER
CONTEMPLATES HIS CAREER
After a few years, there were no
night shifts.
All was routine, except for
holidays,
Often moved to convenient Fridays.
He settled into his particular
groove,
A cubicle, with family photos
Several allegiances without
offense,
Patriotic paraphernalia
Of the non-partisan variety.
Talking to some colleagues, not to
others,
Deciding what to order for his
lunch,
Not appreciated by echelons
Beneath him incapable of grasping
Half of the information in his
files.
He saw no hurry to raise the red
flags
To prevent purchase of the weaponry
Who rapid fire was heard around the
world.

NOW THE PATH MEANDERS
Now the path meanders
which once was straight.
Bends appear before her
paved road becomes muddy ruts
The destination appears
to be even farther away
Slower going and
even deeper in the vale
Angel, appear at the bend
With flaming sword
Blaze a shortcut leading
Upward to journey’s end.
