RENEE’ DRUMMOND-BROWN

RENEE’ DRUMMOND-BROWN

THE LAND OF MILK AND HONEY

My brown mammary glands
extend
across the continents.
Enlarged enough
to feed the homeless.
After-all
This land ‘IZ’
red-man’s land
or
‘WUZ’ thereof.

The land of milk and honey
are mere bosoms
covering
the breast
of emotions and thought
resembling a vaccine;
protecting this
quote-un-quote
great AMERICAN DREAM.
Well
I too “have a dream”
like a ‘King’

I’m infected with your scheme of things.
Not that you care…but
I too dreamt;
a nation fed
off of milk
AND NOT
my honey.

Funny,
but you dis me
and my kids.
Sheer reality,
a loss cause
of
this great American dream
not to include
that
chocolate Nesquik
prelude
amongst your scheme of your things.

Centuries
have come
and past,
but
an enslaved soul,
“made in china”
LOL
was ‘built’ to last
Well
I too “have a dream”
like a ‘King’:
we simply died
crossing
‘YOUR’ Red Sea.
Therefore,
‘The land’ of Milk and Honey
can never satisfy me
(Nor our children’s children to be).

I LOVE LUCY

Brown dreams
lost
‘inna’
black sea.
Slaves
riding them waves,
passing by
this
so, called,
American dream.

Identity cries,
theft lies
beneath
the oldest bones
found.

Who are they?
Archaeologist
want to know?
Her.
But; do they though?
Really?

Scripture foretold,
tale; tale signs
of her
long, long ago;
since
the beginning,
O’
time.

November 24,
1974,
Lucy,
was re-born
again
an’
again
an’
again.

3.2 million years,
of
innocent blood
sweat,
‘an’
enslaved
tears.
Tarry til’
I come;
He said.

But how?
‘Sum’ 400 years later,
the oldest fossil’s
children’s
children,
are still
‘beggin’ bread!
Tarry til’
I come;
He said.

Lucy your
lineage
camouflage
artifacts.
O’
‘dem’
hidden treasures
of Ethiopia’s
pleasure
beyond
her majesty’s
mystery,
of man
daring to dream
Lucy’s
vivid dreams,
beyond her measure.
No scheme;
THIS IS NO SCHEME ATTACHED!

FREEDOM
She ‘sangs’!
O’
FREEDOM!
LET IT RING!
LET IT ‘RANG’
I love Lucy.
Lucy I’m home.
Although,
freedom for ‘our’ children
has come
an’
be gone.

Lucy’s in Africa
with diamonds an’ pearls
oh’ my!
Dinknesh;
she’s amazing,
she’s marvelous
she’s free.
Everyone’s roots
date back
to ‘ONLY HER’
genealogy;
from sea
to
shining seas!
I love Lucy’s legacy.
Mother we’re home.
But
simply not free.

  1. It is no suprise to me to see and "feel" Poetess Renee's work. She is an amazing writer! One of a kind. She shall go far with her gift of unique works. Truth and gets to the bottom and over the mountains too. Sadly. It makes me think of the history of slavery. How they were bought and sold at market like meat and bread. Put on ships packed like sardines. Her words will live on....for freedom of those souls, through her words. For every day...we shall still fight for this "Freedom" no matter what color we are. Love this unique Poetess....Let her voice always be heard....! Barbara S.
