The Moon
The Waves And
The Shore..
The moon
tantalizes and titillates the waves!
Pregnant with
passion: with incredible force
Leap to fondle the moon, fails! then rush to
hug the shore;
Instantly pushed
back; the shore rejects the amorous overtures!
Poseidon plays
the spoil sport!
The villain of
the love story. Pulls it back with all its might!
The futile
attempt continues, relentlessly all odds fight!
The indomitable
urge to be one with the moon or the coast.
Remain unfulfilled: undone!
A foolish, hopeless lover's ghost!
The flustered
heart tears apart
Love continually
tugs at the fiery heart!
The Cupid moon
loves to excite and flirt!
Unrequited: the
waves languish!
It can neither
the moon nor the shore kiss!

Oedipus Today!
What blasphemous
sin did man commit?
Like Oedipus did
he unknowingly meet
His nemesis? Or
else why such a time unleash?
When death knocks
on every door, man slowly perish!
Oedipus, as fate
designed, killed Laius (his father)
As arrogance and
pride overtook and rode to Thebes.
The Delphic
oracle's prophecy proved to be true.
Oedipus' hubris
led him to his hamartia as he let his sins brew!
He answered the
Sphinx with absolute alacrity.
Thereby ensured
the ultimate calamity!
The Thebans
offered Jocasta (his mother) to him:
Blind as he was
committed the incest sin!
Married his own
mother: four children they had together!
Man is the architect
of his own fate!
Time and again it
is proven as it states:
Within the limits
of destiny man may find ways
To assert his
freedom however arbitrary be fate!
The plague that
ravaged Thebes,
Could only be
lifted if the murderer were caught.
Oedipus then the
truth of Laius' death sought!
He was aghast when he came to know,
That it was he who killed his father long ago!
Jocasta harrowed: she bedded her son; Damned!
In shame, guilt
and self-loath herself she hanged! Oedipus too, overcome with despise and
distress;
Took two pins
from his mother's dress,
Pierced his eyes
and marred his vision
Oh! What
sacrilegious connections!
Wonder what man
did now?
What impious act
he ploughed?
His craze to rule
the universe
Has brought upon
him this dreadful curse!
Lust for power:
man's eternal hubris.
How like Oedipus
foolishly he rushes!
Leading himself
to his nemesis:
His tragic flaw
pushes him into abyss!
Oh God! Please
help man redeem his sins.
Before apocalypse
upon himself he brings!

Gangopadhyay:
The Loon..
Absorbed and
engrossed in a world of his own.
He weaves dreams
on his fantastic loom!
Travels in his
mind to places far and near
Talks to himself,
his ideas he hears them clear!
He smiles at
everyone he knows not.
He has no
inhibition of any sort!
He romances life
with rare zeal,
He is emotional,
every pain he feels!
Numerous names
people confer on him,
Prodding on the
streets or on pavements he is seen.
A ragamuffin,
ragged with stained teeth.
The other day I
spotted him there underneath,
The banyan tree
where he was scribbling
Occasionally
looked up while his dirty nails nibbling!
Curious as I was,
cautiously approached,
At once he faced
me and a question he broached.
"Who are
you? And what do you do?"
"Oh! I write
a poem few."
He smiled
broadly, stood up and touched my cheek.
Beaming, his
rheumy, glistening eyes seem to speak.
I grinned as I
gathered my wits:
By then he was
laughing, almost in splits.
I stood there
perplexed and confused,
He wasn’t in the
least bemused!
"I too was a
poet like you. Now I write no new!"
"Oh! Is it?
You shall write soon!"
He turned his
back to go,
I heard him say
as he went,
"I will not
anymore! I am a poem called loon!"
