MIRELA LEKA XHAVA

My Homeland, I Love You!

(Dedicated to my country, 46 years under the communist dictatorship)

My homeland, do you know ?

I betrayed you, before I loved you

 Like Judas I kissed Jesus

By the barred window, lights flickered

Out there, the sun warmed up the West…

With scraps of musty books, I decorated the walls

 I secretly harbored « Madame Bovari»

I cursed myself and the earth at that time

I lit the spent candles until dawn.

I fell so in love with the world out there

How much I hated you, do you know?

I broke the bars, with the wrath of the Titan

I told you to leave, goodbye!

I bow to you, my homeland

With the love of a child, after a fault

I curse dogs and keys with the whole lock

 Who kept the windows closed…

The Smiles

 I knew the smiles

Those of the soul I have shared with myself,

 Facial expression does not matter

When a white rose bloomed from his lips.

I have loved smiles; I have loved them all my life

Like the moonbeams that light up the nights,

The most sincere ones when the eyes laugh

Remain with me, like the joy of the Angels

Doves

 Crumbs crumble between the fingers

In those little bits of happiness for pigeons.

Sitting on my hands, on my arms, on my hair.

I am filled with peaceful cooing, caressing

 For so little given, love.
