WELCOME
TO
OUR POETRY ARCHIVE

FROM THE EDITOR

Internet has changed many things in our life and society. Especially with the advent of social sites and blogs, those who had no scope of publishing their writings, have suddenly gotten a medium of immense possibilities to publish their own writings whenever they wish. You don’t have to wait and go on counting the number of days hoping your writings will be published at last. You don’t have to depend on the editors for publishing your writings. Now social sites have provided you that power, which you can use to publish your own writings whenever you wish. Not only that, you’ll get instant feedbacks of your writings from your virtual audience. Unlike publishing in print medium, publishing in social sites gives you a golden opportunity to see how people are reacting with your writings. So, anyone who wish to be a writer or poet can flourish as a writer or poet through this new medium over the internet. Moreover, you can publish your own book of writings or poetry online, spending your own money. Nowadays this self-publishing tools have enabled many to be self-published writers or poet.

Every day we are writing poems, publishing them online. Getting instant feedbacks in the form of like and comments, which boosts our confidence as a writer or poet immensely. We are all in the same boat together. We like each other's poems but never try to dive deep into the writings of our friends. Always applause each other as a great writer or poet. Never ever spend much time with each other’s writings to evaluate the literary merit of the writings properly. Why we do so? We do so because we always like to be mutually applauded. We never like to be criticized by others. Nor even by our friends, especially by the virtual friends. So, always we want to be praised as a great writer or poet. We feel happy whenever we get positive remarks from our audiences. Now if someone asks us, what sorts of comments do you consider positive or negative? We all know our answers in our inner soul. We only consider a comment positive which praises our writings. We never consider a comment positive which evaluates our poems or writings on its literary merit and shows us what are the sort comings in our writings. Not only that, we are so confident of our literary brilliance and so proud of our own literary achievements that we cannot consider a true critic as a true friend. In today’s world of power and greed, we have forgot about the basic conditions of friendship. Especially in this realm of virtual friendship. Everybody is accustomed to be praised unconditionally as a poet or writer by the virtual friends. Whenever anyone tries to show someone where and how the literary merit of the writings is falling short of the benchmark, the friendship gets jolted.

Yes, it is most unfortunate. And it is really the unfortunate story of this virtual world. Every one of us are well aware of this. That is the main reason for which none actually dares to criticize properly a piece of literary writing.  Nobody likes to lose a friend, so everybody plays safe by congratulating others for their poems or writings.

These are the general features of virtual publications and friendship. Now if we concentrate only over poetry as a literary form, we may discover some new elements out of it. Most of us are publishing poems over the net. If we research further, we’ll see most of us are writing poems only after the invent of internet or after the advent of social sites where one can publish his or her poems instantly without any direct or indirect intervention of editors. This feature has established a general consensus on writing of poetry. We think whenever our poems are getting likes and positive remarks from most of our friends, our poems are literally brilliant. This gives us immense pleasure and satisfies our self-ego to the extent of self-pride. Unfortunately, it also blindfolds us from the actual realities.

One of the greatest poets ever, T.S Eliot has told us almost a century before that, “Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion; it is not the expression of personality, but an escape from personality. But, of course, only those who have personality and emotions know what it means to want to escape from these things.” Actually, those who have started writing poetry only after the advent of social sites, have no or little schooling on literature. They are writing mostly out of their love to express their own feelings and emotions, love and passions in words and stanzas. So, their writings are mostly the extensions of their emotions and their individual personalities. Unfortunately, they and even their readers in general remain unaware that poetry is not at all the extension of the poet’s own personality. A poem has nothing to do with the personalized emotional expressions of poet’s own feelings even if how much passionate that might be.

As a poet, or whenever one writes a poem should be aware of these basic features about poetry in general propagated by one of the best ever poetical mind. Yes, I would never deny that, it is much easier to criticize than to put on paper a piece of pure poetry. Again. I know how difficult it is to achieve this level to escape from personal emotions and own’s own personality to embark upon writing pure poem. Yes, it is too difficult a venture to try even for any general lover of poetry. It requires years of exercises studies and even meditations. Moreover, this is not possible for everyone who likes to write poems or even wish to become a poet.

To become a poet, one also has to master himself or herself on the language of poetry. It is really a difficult proposition for the general public. One can become a true critic of literature or poetry without even mastering on the language of poetry. But it is quite impossible to write a piece of poetry without having achieved that poetical language skill. If we go on further with our research on the present poetical scenario of this virtual world of self-publishing, we’ll find an interesting twist. There are very few poets who realize the importance of escaping from emotions and personality in writing poems. Yet not all of them have the essential skills of poetical language. Again, we can find number of poets with the excellent language skills of poetical expressions but unfortunately without any idea of poetry itself. Usually these poets believe in spontaneous expressions of personal emotions in poetry. If one reads their poetry intensely, one would certainly be really amazed with the power of their writing skills, the depth of their knowledge of the language itself. But with utter astonishment one would find the hollowness of their poetical visions. A poet has to match both parameters to become really a poet, or to even write a pure piece of poetry,

Now coming back to our starting point, if we do advise the same to any of our contemporary poets, he or she may consider that we are trespassing his or her own territory of liberty. It is his or her fundamental rights to interpret poetry or literature according personal likes and dislikes. Quite so. No one would argue with that logic. But whenever as a true friend virtual or not, one tries to help others, we should at least acknowledge their concern both as a lover of literature and friendship. Most unfortunately this virtual world is not yet matured enough to realize all these facts and realities of pure literature, poetry and friendship.

SLAVKA BOŽOVIĆ

Remembering The Last Dance . . .

I remember the events of the old evening,
when I agreed to go to the ball with them,
since then grief has been measured in decades
a, my heart breaks when I think of that June night.
It was our unique evening,
I wore the dress he bought me,
a hug shone around my neck instead of a necklace,
and through a kiss he whispered to me:
"My love, you will be the most beautiful tonight".
Holding hands on the podium,
we stopped, loud applause shaking the hall,
we enjoyed the beauty we shone with
and not realizing that this was our last dance.
And now it’s like I hear those firm footsteps,
and a striking expression sewn to the lash.
As I intertwined my steps, I also touched the clouds
and his firm hands turned me into a bird.
There is still indescribable sadness in my heart,
and the outlines of the time when the night was crowned,
our last dance that is divine,
the game of bad luck overshadowed everything.
I still keep the cloak of blue tulle,
I never wore his dress again,
a sad swallow nestled in my heart
it reminds me of dancing and lost love.
Maybe sometimes he hears the melody of this song
I will ask the wind to carry it to him,
to whisper to him that my eternal restlessness remains,
and packed pain in a letter without an address. . .

You Gave Me Wings. . .

Remember my first song?
Written, with a pen of pain,
Fountains were pouring out of my soul,
With a heart, dead in half.
You suddenly appeared,
With a tear in my eye, I called you,
I saw you as an Angel,
Which landed from a galaxy.
I asked for heavenly grace,
I knelt on my knees,
With enlightened hands,
Your love has revived me.
Now I write songs about happiness,
The heart healed light,
As I write with you, I breathe,
You gave me the wings of an angel.

Do Not Worry . . .

Insomnia dresses fit me nicely
I sewed one and indigo color
If your peace is defiled, remove them from your heart
and be happy, don't worry about me.
Listen, now the cosmos is echoing softly
drinks the distance from my fingers
The celestial spindle binds us with threads
Don't worry about sadness and my sleepless nights.
I scan your feelings with a sigh
the purest that is born in an instant
Just like painting the wind with colors
the smell of constellations or the taste of water.
Don't worry about the excessive cloud of longing
sleep like an angel,
let the sun wake you up
Maybe one day I'll come to you in my dreams
And melt the pain of longing, with warm kisses.
Don't worry about me just be happy
hide your sorrow so that no one sees it
The wind when he puts me on your chest
the stars will testify that we have always loved each other.

Summer Nights. . .

Summer evenings whisper to the stars
the carnival dances through the heavenly eye
and our silences intertwine there
to reopen the longing deeply
Contours call us night crowns
we want to wander endlessly
a winding aber can occur
that the other good is somewhere out there
And that often happens by who knows which way
the hands on the clock match
our only witness is the moon yellow
That our thinking in orbit fuses
At least we meet so much
how much heaven gives us strength
no one can trace us
The moon is hiding us on this summer night. . .

The Hand Of An Angel . . .

Do you remember, my first songs
Written in pain with ink
the fountain poured out of the soul
With a heart, half dead
Suddenly you showed up
Those tears called to you
You tamed all my pain
You raised me with an angelic hand
And I asked Heaven for mercy
You gave it to me nobly
He hugged me with a friendly heart
The magic of empathy revived me
Now I write songs about happiness
The heart composes a song
I write and breathe with you
Thank you, my heavenly angel,

AGRON SHELE

AGRON SHELE

Passage

I need to see beyond the frames
And twist the contrast to make one more color
for deciphering all the views
that in a second change so abruptly
to make that colour a sea, a typhoon,
but also the peace that sleeps on the white waves
peace that rests beside an island
which, for me, Ithaca always remains

Time sleeps on the blooming lilies
whorls brightened in spring
collecting the first beams of dawn
and hiding their sight beyond the twilight
putting together the galaxy of stars.
that sparks on the cherry garden of love
to feel the distant whisper of the body
wrapped in a scarf of longing

and so the day’s vail is unveiled
running toward the purity of life
removing a fraction that reflects the light
and turning it to a charm that reveals the sun
weaved like this, in Gods fire
together with the lyre of the goddess of muses
at the footsteps left on the desire of words
or the thirsty longing for the traces of lips.

Twilight

At the twilight I saw the angel descending
like only he knows to
his white wings blinded the night
and a bright vail covered the sky,
the glowing shape, like a hanging spirit
the fire, kidnapped from the bosom
that was burning on the eyes of lightning
and was poured as a thunderclap
in the turbulent sea
Or maybe it was the magic of life
that descends from the God’s throne
to bestow only one flash
that was lost to the sunset
to the ship’s rigs surrounded by seagulls
permeating invisible circles
flickering on a cover of mystery
as a mirage remains in my daydream.

At the twilight I saw the only light
brightening the frame of a siren
that radiates her hair to the waterfall,
immersing them to the ends of depth
like a reflection of glory itself
to her arm, covered in emerald
where the specter of colors brakes
attracted to a red charm.

At twilight I saw the innocent sight
of her, who gave birth to life
building a monument to humanity
the era that lights the world
to spark another desire
of tomorrows eternity
kneeling in front of the altar
to get the sole blessing.

A woman

Do not expect her to walk
in the cold streets with her scarf over one shoulder
Or tap the heels on the silent memories
nor mirroring her image in the shops window
because her effulgence
is stronger then the sun
that warms the ice transforming it in to a candle, touching the marrow of the earth
breaking the myths of winter
that die at the irises and yet,
are resurrected
to embrace the light.

An image that appears at the shine of stars
and with her the wind extends the hair
to a forest where the deers are sleeping
the tracks of their hooves are printed on the snow
like a magic hidden in lightning
slaves of fate and troubled dance
towards that image
that god himself created
holiness
in the kingdom of every living breath.

Do not expect her to be weakened
because pain walks with her blood
and the blood with the feeling of eternity
like a deity
of the force that lifts gods to their feet,
the angels, everyday,
understanding the silence
of the turn of centuries
because the life is more than one attempt
that walks through the gates of the rainbow
and opens the doors of life
to the smile of a woman!
