Five Limericks For Illustrious British Poets
George,
an illustrious poet, no newcomer.
While
planning a trip and enjoying a Rummer
Summed
for Delhi the pros
But then
changed and chose
To spend
in Norwich his Indian Summer.
(for
George Szirtes)
….............................................................
This
capricious poet named Crucefix
Took no
pleasure in rhyming limericks
The third
and forth line
Indeed
made him whine
And the
fifth was too cumbersome to fix.
(for
Martyn Crucefix)
….............................................................
A
well-known poet of Mexborough
Sank in
despondency and sorrough
For he
knew of no song
To
attract folks along
To the
thoroughly worthseeing Mexborough.
(for
Jan Park)
….................................................................
When
Seán, poet and scholar, planned to retire
The
students protested and cried in choir
Said he:
“Now, it's time for leisure,
For
amusement and pleasure.“
And set
off to fulfil his plans and desires.
(for
Seán Street)
…............................................................
Lucky
Adele had a tree feller
Who
couldn't wait to tell 'er
He wanted
her photograph
As pay,
and her autograph
On her
latest best-seller.
(for
Adele Ward)
