Is Life But A Walking Shadow, A Poor Player?

Life is a boon from the Supreme Being,

Life is the grace of the Divine Being,

With a purpose for living beings,

To think healthy,

To care and show empathy,

To forgive and to teach mercy,

To love and appreciate others’ love,

To give and thank for what we get from above,

To have generosity,

To show humanity,

To the bereft, to the fallen,

And to the downtrodden.

As people of integrity, responsible beings,

Peace and security creating,

As those noble philanthropic players who engage

In others’ wellbeing on this stage.

I Am Thinking

Therefore I Am

Descartes said, “Cogito, ergo sum,”

‘I am thinking therefore I am’,

I say, I am thinking because You are,

You, the pillar of hope, love and faith

You, the Supreme Soul.

I am thinking because You are

The giver, bestower of light on me,

On us, on us all, our saviour,

Shining the splendour of Your Divine Grace.

I am thinking because You are,

The precious life air within me,

Within us, our life support,

Given so generously, so bounteously.

I am thinking because You are

My every single movement, my strength

By Your mercy, I can go miles,

We can go miles.

I am thinking because You are,

My vision, our vision,

Your divine light

Enabling us to see the manifestation of beauty around us.

I am thinking because You are,

My faculties

Our faculties to distinguish between good and bad,

Inculcated by your munificent Grace.

Therefore, I am

Because You are there my Eternal Companion.

Our Eternal Companion,

Our Omniscient, Omnipotent Guide.

Love

Love the power,

Love the conqueror

Love the healer,

Love the balm,

Love to bring calm

Without qualm

Love the antidote, so very efficacious,

Love the potent, such a powerhouse.

Love, like the lotus flower, so resplendent

Though growing in murky waters, still so magnificent,

Representing majesty,

Purity,

Serenity,

Enchanting by its beauty,

Bringing fulfillness,

Ultimate bliss or call it simply happiness.

PUSHMAOTEE FOWDUR SUBRUN was born in 1949 in Mauritius. She pursued higher studies in Delhi University where she graduated in English. For the past forty-five years she has worked in secondary schools, seven years of which she spent in Masvingo, Zimbabwe, teaching English in an army school. She completed her PGCE at the Mauritius Institute of Education. After her retirement, she was a member of the Council of the University of Mauritius for three years. She is currently a reader and editor in the Ministry of Arts and Culture. She is the author of: ‘Ella’- a novel, ‘Who is Your Best Friend?’- a play. ‘Short Stories and Fables’- a compilation of stories and Fables. ‘Dreams to Reality’ (submitted to be published by the Ministry of Arts and culture). ‘A lyrical bouquet of Soulful Poems’ to be published in the coming months. Her poems have featured in prestigious online literary magazines such as ‘Setu e zine’, ‘Poetry and Creativity’, ‘Atunis Poetry’,  ‘Recco -World Union of Poets’, Khushi Verma’s ‘Anthology of Poems and Short Stories’, ‘Atunis Poetry’- Destiny Poets’, ‘OPA Anthology of Poetry’, ‘Awakening’,   ‘Best Poetry’, ‘Literati Council’ of Mathura and in International Multilingual Poetry Anthology of Amaravati Poetic Prism 2018.
