A Thought That Hurts Us
Even After Our Death
One day we will
say goodbye
to the child who
holds our finger
being afraid
that he would lose himself in the supermarket
where on shelves
we are selling the world to him
vacuumed-packed,
sealed
sterilized,
preserved
labeled,
advertised
euphemized.
We will give him
a piece of our sky
and a piece of
our dream earned in a foreign country
we will put our
palm against his forehead
and kiss him
goodbye with the lips of our time
to be sure that
we would recognize him
when he will
return to us from the future
and then we will
let him go
all by himself
in the world
in the traffic
in the crowded
thoughts that pass each other
and collide
without being
warned by the car siren
because we want
him to learn the light signals all by himself
And we will not
know which day that thought will return to us
like the cry of
a newborn
the cry that we
may have torn it from our hearts long ago
but it will
still hurt
long after our
death
long after our
death
An Eidetic Image
We have lost the
trail of a desert with engraved steps
in an unknown
direction
and in the eyes
of the child sitting by the sea
a sand castle
settled
through his
father’s fingers
like liquid clay
the seconds of a
time were dropping
a time in which
on a black-and-white photography
the very same
child eats a slice of bread and plum jam
taken from the
canteen
bought with
coupons
of abandoned
lives
thousands of
kilometers away from home
an introverted
desert
with sand in its
eyes
lives eternally
in a wooden frame
in the antique
shop around the corner
