Blue Water Lilies In Egypt

In the Egyptian Valley of the Kings,

Along the languorous River Nile,

The blue lily rose in the mornings,

To dip in the water at noon’s smile.

Shying away like Sun in the evenings,

It chose not to show its delicate face,

Receding silently beneath trappings,

It gave to the dusk its daily traipse.

In Tutankhamun's grave, it was found,

A wreath of dried blue lilies in fuse.

Deeper in coffins buried underground,

Flower collars of more lilies, profuse.

As the deceased bid adieu on a boat,

A ride on waters with a lily’s remedy.

The Egyptians dreamt of a new moat,

Hope lay in rebirth of spirit and body.

Papyrus and the blue lily they twine,

Fraternal art in 'ankh'; O what a glance!

Visions revealed by this honoured vine,

Blue lilies laid at feet in a cryptic trance!

A Garden In My Heart

My words are as eloquent as the blue iris,

The white lilacs lie low with true humility,

A carnation speaks of pride you cannot miss

The lily is ever radiant with refined beauty.

The gardenia in all its sweetness and purity,

Smiles at the daisy so pure with innocence.

The daffodils wave with regard and chivalry,

While the pink aster sighs with calm patience.

Hark the dandelions blowing freely in the wind,

Their simplicity in the air? Is it not for all to see?

The hyacinth is playful, sporty for kith and kin;

Peonies shy away, bashful, yet filled with glee.

Can you guess if I whisper ever so softly to thee,

How much joy all these fine flowers bring to me?

My heart, filled with their colours, O feels so free!

It's a garden of love, blossoming, so do leave it be.
