Hide And Seek

 

Where's my mother,

where's my brother?

The walls are collapsed,

everywhere is dust and smoke,

in flames.

My hand reaches out,

wanting to hold a hand.

 

My tears are the color of smoke,

there it is!

It's not far away,

my toy is in the rubble.

Its color has changed, why?

Why is it blood-colored?

 

Where's my mother, where's my mother,

where's my brother?

We were playing a game,

laughing and having fun just now.

A brother under every stone,

What kind of game is this?

What kind of hide-and-seek?

Look, your arm is somewhere,

your leg is somewhere,

you couldn't hide,

you look covered in blood.

Ah!

My lips are dry, my stomach is hungry.

I wanted a drop of water,

a piece of dry bread.

 

Where were we, really?

 

Let's count again.

One, missile...

Two, bomb...

Three, debris...

Come on, run, run, take shelter somewhere,

hide somewhere.

We're playing a game.

HIDE AND SEEK

You count too,

you shout too,

how many missiles,

how many debris,

how many losses,

let this game end,

say "front, back, right, left, stove"

Let the balloons not burst,

Let them rise colorfully into the blue.

LEYLA IŞIK: Educator-Poet-Writer-Artist-Painter. She graduated from Teacher Training College in Usak and Faculty of Education of Eskisehir Anadolu University. She had worked as a teacher for many years. She, Vice President of KIBATEK and International Organization and Project Coordinator, organized the 31st,34 th, 39th, 40 th, 42 nd, 44 the KIBATEK International Litrary Festivals and attended India World Poetry Festival organized by Pentasy B in Hydarabadand “Golden Word” International Literary Festival in Uzbekistan. She is painter, received theatre training, writes heather plays besides poetry, short stories and essays. She is the poet of passion, longing, love and struggle.
