ANDREW SCOTT

ANDREW SCOTT

Distant

From my naked soul’s eye

my destination seems so close

yet completely far away from me, distant.

I have yearned to arrive

at this mystical place

that provides inner peace

since the time of memories

Have never questioned the path

even when there was crumbing.

Lessons, to me, were being taught

at the weakest, harshest moments.

Will never regret

how I arrive there.

Absorb the pleasure or pain

from the event of my travels.

Can feel it hitting my body.

It is right there.

This distant place of peace.

Look The Same

You look the same as you always have.

The dignified look to you

that you carried all through your life.

Can see the other changes

that are occurring within you.

You used to tell stories,

with such details, of your youth.

The work and the life

lived and experienced.

Now you barely

know where you are.

Feel this wearing on you

both physically and mentally.

Hurts to you move around,

limping slowly from place to place.

Images and memories of your strength

of just a few, short years ago

flood my mind.

I pray for the same strength

that you are showing

to every single one of us.

I hide it but not well,

the pain and sadness I feel.

Knowing a time is coming

that you will be leaving us.

Until then, you look the same

but I know you are not.

The Raven Whispers

Walk amongst everyone

with a black raven on my left shoulder

that only I can hear and see.

It is a constant reminder as I live

that I need all the darkness

to feel the empowerment of the light.

Have the vision to see the darkness,

the strength to avoid it.

When the haze approaches me,

however, to feel, I embrace it.

The feeling of torture and pain

I am not afraid of it.

Have to feel that pleasure

of the electricity routing through the body

knowing the inner destruction

that the darkness will cause.

I know that I am protected

with the guidance of my Raven.

It will see me through when I am blind

to the light in the end.

Believe in this and the guiding Raven whispers.

The Gatekeeper

The Gatekeeper’s giggle

echoes in my head

as my mind awakes

in my terrified bed.

Hardly remember my dreams.

Tonight is the exception.

Playing over and over again

through my tired eyes.

The Gatekeeper opened the entrance

to let my lucid mind in.

Smiling while closing the gates,

trapping me inside.

I walk down a red, dirt tunnel.

In the end, there is a fire light.

An older lady with a hidden face

offers a clear glass of liquid

That I take and drink.

It is thick and bitter.

My body reacts like it is a cleanser.

As I cannot stop drinking,

feel light as I leave the room.

Next place is so dark,

all I hear is water flowing.

I cannot see it

so a fear is rising in me.

Not knowing where it is.

One step and I could go under.

As soon as a toe hits the waters

I turn and run.

End up in a grey, snowy area.

A black and white bench

inviting me to sit.

An arm wraps around my shoulder.

One that I feel but cannot see.

Whispering words of comfort

and guidance to my ear.

I turn my head in hopes

that I can see who it is.

I cannot see the face

but the voice I know.

The leads to my waking,

drenched in my own sweat,

more tired than before.

Sleep will not be brought back.

All the mind hears repeatedly

is the Gatekeeper’s giggle.
