Coffee Shop
As I take my
seat,
I grip the hot
coffee that I just bought.
It is a little
cool on this December day.
A good time for
liquid warmth
in this bustling
coffee shop.
I did not
realize how busy
this place would
be.
There are a
chorus of loud voices
surrounding
these walls between sips.
See that it is
leading to confusion
to the new guy
nervously taking orders.
Hard to be in
training when you can barely hear.
His trainer
keeps smiling
but you can see
the irritation
in her face each
time a customer repeats an order.
She has even
overtaken the cash machine
when he stumbles
a bit.
Makes me a bit
sad
cause I know he
will not be here next week.
Minimum wage,
minimum effort.
Behind me, there
is a table of five of men and women
that used to
work together a few years before
sharing stories
good and bad
about their time
together, laughing at each one.
The stories I
overhear
have a similar
vibe to them.
All about the
times with each other.
Great to hear
the smiles in their words
and the
undeniable friendship.
Over in the
corner is a guy
writing
constantly in a note pad.
Piques my
curiosity.
He looks up for
a moment
then goes back
to the pen in his hand.
It does not look
like homework,
more like he is
writing about us.
Afraid of what
he may be writing.
The place has
cleared out a bit
as I finish my
last sip.
Realize it is my
time to leave.
Pack up my stuff
knowing I will be back
to take in the
atmosphere of this coffee shop.

Angel Lifts Me
Feel the wings
of protection surrounding me
with an aura
only I can see and feel
heat when I need
warmth
or cold when the
spirit has embers
carried when the
body feels week
and the soul
feels beaten down
When I walk my
paths
know I am never
alone
there is a light
that guides through darkness
so I may see
further ahead
feel safe at
insecure times
Guided to a calm
when emotions
are high
without
judgement of my thoughts
clearing them
with tenderness
Strength within
vibrates with belief
as I am guided
by the unseen
angel that lifts
me
