A Wish
I dreamed long
ago
of seeing your
hair turn white
of staying with
you
until old
The time has now
come
your gray hair
your face no
longer a child's and
mine marked by
wrinkles
and tired eyes
And I still feel
the same desire
to be by your
side
to never leave
you alone
to console you
in dark moments
and rejoice with
you
When the weather
is clear
I Hate
Mirrors
I hate mirrors
when they
suddenly appear
emerge from
hidden corners of shops
even in the back
streets of the city
they reveal a
face
that I don't
recognise
that seems foreign to me
never seen
before
with wrinkles
withered skin
and tired eyes
sad
hunched body
on a back that I
swear is straight
and I wonder
whose image that is
that pretends to
be me
I put my hands
on my face
and tell myself
no
it can't be
I dream
it's a waking
nightmare
but as soon as I
move away a little
from that
reflection
the image
follows me
and seems to say
but how
you don't
recognize me
we've been
walking together for so long
we breathe
together

exceptional works by modern writers, blending them together seems a challenge
for many, where Maria is found to be successful applying them into her poems.
Author of anthologies in Italian, English or both languages She is recipient of
numerous national and international awards and recognition.
