MARIA DO SAMEIRO BARROSO

Disquiet

To leave, always to leave, to leave forever.

You can find no stable place when looking

for the unusual rumour of things.

Death is an orange rotting

in a language of verses.

A river is all I have,

in the blind everyday life,

where the tight heart expands

along with the drum of darkness,

the bleating of the sea,

the distant sun.

Glowing Song

My hands are green,

my words are green.

I look at you.

In the back viscera of the night,

your heart is also green,

my eyes are filled with rain.

The night is a portion of emeralds,

your body is a tree

of enchanting birds,

and the dew inside my dreams

drives me into bright paths

where love extends its wings

and white doves hover

over misty matter

and blue sapphires sticking out

of the green gardens

of my glowing song.
