MICHAEL LEE JOHNSON

Lay Down, Bridget (V3)

Lay down, Bridget.

Down we go, spiro surfing

in Canadian winter snow.

So, what, negative 40 below.

Young, foolish, stupid, coupled up,

a prerequisite to becoming a poet,

of merit, somewhat successful.

Bridget, Irish Bridget, lie down, let’s go.

Let’s create a new, heaven-forged iron image.

We need to flip this poem upside down.

In bed, chill or heat creates this song.

Listen to my heartbeat, forfeit my lips, seal, tell no one.

Remember these small pines,

short seasons, ephemeral pleasures.

Whisper in my left ear, you are crazy, enjoy dancing naked.

Hug me, snuggle up last time with such raw, chafed thoughts.

In the wilderness, let’s spud the bark,

camouflage into these piles of timber.

Lay down, Michael, with Bridget.

Bridget, lie down with Michael.
