LUISA CÁMERE QUIROZ

Monarch Butterflies

In the glorious stillness of my existence,

as my windows twinkle,

the gentle fluttering of monarch butterflies reaches my reverie.

My delicate eyelids

seem to be their translucent wings,

I feel in my open chest

their galloping through my lands.

I perceive in my veins

the murmur of their mantles,

a fine and silky whisper,

and I sense in their busy flight

an incessant throbbing.

They have velvet wings.

They huddle together and withstand

the crackling of the wind in the mountains.

They nestle / frolic, beautiful / transparent.

No matter how far they fly,

They persist in the zeal of an ancestral dance.

They bring good omens!

My thoughts wander with them

to Northern California on their nuptial journey.

A nocturnal melody lulls me,

silently traversing a staff

beneath the full moon.

My feverish verses flutter swiftly

across seas and continents,

carrying in their flights golden filigree,

slices of onyx that endure the hardship of their migration.

Their goal is to reach their conquest

from southern Mexico / to Canada,

resting in northern California.

And in their fervent exodus,

many die in the attempt.

These heroines in flight of resistance

are the mirror of the migrant soul.

They are winged poetry that inspires us and warns us

that smallness has its grandeur.

That there are uncertain journeys nourished by dreams

in favor of change, to resist and survive.

And

I am a monarch butterfly!

Each flap is life

A pain / A death

Transmutation!

A Glimpse Of Gaze

A gaze that flashes, driving me crazy ,

when I behold such innate beauty.

I cannot flee this tenderness,

that makes my soul shine like a halo.

Not for an instant would I dare forget you.

Come, beloved, to soothe this agony!

Increase the flow with this euphony,

I can no longer stop adoring you,

you have me bewitched by your eyes,

that make my soul tremble on its knees.

Hail, Beatrice, I beg you do not ignore me.

For without your gaze I would die.

You are my muse, perfect symphony.

My soul's music, my thousand flowers.
