BARBARA SUEN

BARBARA SUEN

THE MADNESS OF THE MOTH

The moth, desperate and blind in the darkness,
searches for light
no one knows why
he is hypnotized to find it...it is innate.

Getting close to it is not enough for him.
He must touch it...get inside of it
without any sense of danger
holding on to the mesmerizing glow,
too tight....

Blissfully, he falls
tissue paper wings are broken
Ah, for two seconds of warmth and pure joy
He found the light.....
and knew nothing more.

GOD WILL ASK

One day God will ask me
what did you do with the sweet gift of life
I bestowed upon you?
with your five senses
your arms and legs
your brain
your heart?
What have you produced
in my name?
I sure don't want to just stand there
in his Glory
blue eyes blank
in silence
mouth wide open.

CONCRETE GARDEN ANGEL

"I've been sitting here looking out at the world
for a long, long time.
You don't see what I see,
because you're racing on by too fast, I'd say.
Slow down
You're going to miss it all.
You think you get forever?
Even ignoring the rules he gave us."

"Your neighbor doesn't have long, she's in a lot of pain.
Two houses down, there lives an old man,
his little dog has lung cancer....walking past your house,
he always says "I love your flowers"!
Ask yourself, what have you done for the least of your brothers?"

"Slow down, sit down...take a deep breath.

Call your mother, your sister and brother...your friend.
Don't call him just when you have trouble
When is the last time you got on your knees?"

"You see...I've been sitting here for a long, long time.
I stop and smell the flowers.
You do not see what I see.
Slow down, whatsoever you do......
The "forever" comes too soon.
Love deeply.
Love completely.
That is why you're here."

AUGUST NIGHT MUSIC

Sitting outside in the sultry August darkness
Nothing moves...not even one leaf
closing my eyes to hear the night noises
I hear a rhythym to it...cicadas, crickets and tree frogs
a 1-2-3, then 1-2...over and over
from the left...response somewhere from the right...
sychronized calls and answers
cricket love songs under the glow of the moon
he sings for hours to his mate.  His legs....a violin...
She falls to sleep with this summer serenade.  Ah, love!

Tree frog meetings...."hey Joe, it's going to rain again tomorrow".
"Yes, Gerald croaks, we will meet under the big rocks by the lake"!
"Ok", says Joe, "the kids love that place...great flies"!

I imagine.....
eyes still closed.
1-2-3....1-2.....1-2
Under the shadows of the trees...the crickets and cicadas waltz
to the rhythym of the steamy symphony.
