October
October arrives
in a golden glow
Bringing with it
winds that blow
Clearing the
trees of their turning leaves
Tossing them
into a frenzy
In the chilly
breeze
Darker mornings,
earlier nights
Nature settling
down
With hibernation
in sight.

Life Lessons
Wisdom and
knowledge
Are gained
through the years
Through triumphs
and pitfalls
Lessons that
occur
Tears and joyous
moments
Losses and
sorrows
A day of hard
graft
Counting all
your tomorrows
Counting your
blessings
The big and the
small
Getting back up
After the
nastiest of falls
Staying strong
through life's storms
The feeling of
the sun on your face
Knowing there's
nothing in this life
You can't give a
go or embrace.

Loves Battleground
Shot in the back
by your poisoned tipped dart
It was right on
target
It penetrated my
heart
My once bright
world
Has now turned
as black as yours
Can feel the
poison pulsing through me
Can only hope
for a cure
You would never
take no for an answer
Always had to be
you and your rules
If I begged to differ,
I was the fool
The scars and
bruises
Are both inside
and out
I can see the
birds circling
As my body wants
to give out
I struggle to
fight
To get through
this god-awful pain
On this
battlefield of love
That has almost
driven me insane.

Magic Of Introspection
Looking outside
At the world
around me
As well as
inside spiritually
At one’s own
mental and emotional being
Finding a
balance
Between these
two places
Through self-reflection
and discovery
Reflecting on
what has passed
What is yet to
come
Wanting to
fulfil goals and wishes
Not yet achieved
On a journey of
self-discovery
Unique in its
experience to me
A journey of
instinct and intuition
that is alone
mine

Shattered
I'm cracking up
Falling apart
A pain is raging
within this heart
It's broken,
battered
Scarred, bruised
Tired of being
used and abused
It needs some
healing
A balm of love
Spread over
these wounds
That are
infected and cut
Given time they
will heal
As they always
do
But another
lessons been learned
From this pain
I've gone through.

Tough Love
I was caught
In the gossamer
Of your love
Ensnared and
tangled
In the web of
deceit you spun
Taken in by your
charms
Always the prey
Even from the
beginning
Oh how you
played me well
Like a fly to
the web
A fine dining
ticket
You made of me..
But I managed to
get free
Your grip not
quite sticky enough
A lesson learned
That was some
tough love.

DONNA MCCABE
DONNA MCCABE: She is an
experienced poet with over twenty years of experience whose vast variety of
work has gained her multiple accolades within her field of literature over the
years. She has been published both nationally and internationally in journals,
magazines and anthologies as well as reviewing them too. She is a highly
respected admin in multiple social media groups, and is a regular contributor
to literature. Besides this she is an artist also. Her intricate wordplay
displayed in her works has been personified by her past and concurrent
experiences which include her hardships, trials and tribulations. Her lifetime
admiration of reading and writing and love of art has steered her into an
adventurous new direction of collaborations with an up -and- coming Canadian
artist Ala Ilescu whose idiosyncratic mind and artistic works compliment the
vivid images her narrative works paint. These collaborations have resulted in a
beautiful book of poetry and artwork entitled “Explosion Of Love” published on
Amazon. Her creativity has also taken her onto other platforms in recent times,
using Instagram to reach out and display her love of writing, artwork and love
of the natural world to a wider audience. Her writings and interactions with
the wider poetry communities there have helped her gain a good following and
many awards and features too.
