My Late Love
My heart bleeds
like a pomegranate in crimson,
rubies scatter
in a masquerade of sorrow.
The world
doesn't notice, no one sees the tearing
that runs
through the channel of my hollow veins.
Because love
touched my soul when it was too late;
it knows nothing
of age, of time, or of cold.
My soul froze
when I learned
that his kisses
and his glances would never be mine.
It's better that
the feeling turns to ice,
that it melts
and drips like tears of pearls;
they will no
longer be of blood, but a crystalline cry.
Crying, because
a burning flame still remains
in that gaze and
in the touch of his hands.
Crying, because
love was late
and the heart
fades like a withered rose.
Lifeless, and
the feeling becomes agonizing,
withered by time
that does not forgive.
I will survive,
without the touch of her hands, without her gaze;
thus, I keep,
like a hidden treasure, my late-blooming love.
Eternity
There are loves
that dwell in distance,
living in the
stillness of the sacred,
they need
neither kisses nor fragrance
to remain
forever bound.
They are flames
that in the forge of the spirit
ignite the
engine of the universe,
a fire that does
not burn, in situ
that is sealed
in the ink of each verse.
As Laura was
light in Canzionero,
a pure archetype
in her gaze,
Petrarch at Mass
became a prisoner,
of his divine
and immaculate muse.
Or Dante,
Beatrice in The Divine Comedy,
was a symbol of
peace and virtue,
found in the
seven heavens a remedy
towards an
eternal and mystical fullness.
Let me be your
reliquary today,
an immense and
immeasurable feeling,
let our love be
the most
confessional,
one soul to
another, forever united.
