Abandoned

 

Shards of what was once a treasure

Were scattered all around the dusty floor

Like the shards of a broken heart.

Various questions were running through my mind

As I explore each room.

With teary eyes I look at the traces of the passage of time,

Furniture that was once in good state was destroyed by mold,

The greasy windows reflected the deteriorating sight of the men

That were blinded by the temptations of Satan.

Even childhood memories were left behind.

Nothing mattered to those that abandoned life’s priceless treasures

For illusions and deceits.

Ambition

 

It all begins with words echoing from the distance.

Their sound caress our mind until they reach deeper into the soul

Oh, it shines so bright that it awakens our curiosity!

Using our senses we want to learn more.

 

The more we insist, the more determined we become,

It shines so bright that our mind is made up.

A dream so big, that sometimes sacrifices must be made,

We courageously take fate by surprise.

 

Thorny vines scratch our skin,

Harsh remarks hit us like stones thrown at a criminal,

“Give up! You don’t stand a chance!” the naysayers snarl,

But with faith in our hearts, we’re determined to do the impossible at any cost.

Aspiration, motivation, perseverance and will are only some of ambition’s relatives.

Horizon

 

Open your eyes and witness all the miracles around you:

A dainty flower struggling to reach the light from the stone giant’s grip,

Creatures of different shapes and sizes

Swimming in the waters that are flowing through jungles and rocks,

Your feathered friends adding some color and grace

While delighting your ears with their lovely songs,

The flora in all its beauty

And the sun rising and setting on the horizon.

 

Leaf through the old books,

Hear what the wisest have to say,

Learn from the skilled,

Listen to your inner voice to broaden your horizons.

GEORGIANA-LAURA GHEORGHE: Born in a country with a wonderful history, customs, traditions and culture, she’s a sensitive soul whom considers writing as a way to express her untold feelings and opinions. She’s a translator, but creative writing is one of the many hobbies she has. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in the English Language and Literature – French Language and Literature – Philology at “Spiru Haret” University in Bucharest, Faculty of Letters – Bucharest (Romania) and a Master’s Degree in Translation and Interpretation at “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galaţi (Romania). She competed at a few national creative writing contests such as the “EMINESCIANA” National Poetry Writing Contest, 2020 and international literary championships such as the “WPC - 144” August 28th, 2020, the “WPC - 143” August 18th, 2020 and so on. She was awarded Award of Excellence on August 29th, 2020, she received the Mențiunea II at second edition of the “Praise to love” International Competition in Romania 2020, received the Certificate of Achievement for Dedication to serving Culture & Humanity from the Munir Mezyed Foundation for Arts & Culture, during the International „Odyssey” Festival, Craiova, October 10th, 2019 and won the Excellence Award at the International Poetry Championship, September 2019. She published poetry in various national and international literary magazines and anthologies, and launched her first bilingual poetry book “What is life?” on September 2019. Other than creative writing, she likes to listen to music mostly classical, instrumental and soundtracks, travel and navigate on the Internet.
