Danielito's Miracle
Danielito, as a child
Collected Jesus and the Virgin Mary’ s pictures
As well as mementos
From his cousins' first communions.
Before making his first communion
He wanted to be an altar boy
And the priest of his parish accepted him
Because he was the most handsome of the boys.
At eleven years of age
He entered the Conciliar Seminary of Segovia
Where he began to enjoy
The beauty of the Virgin
And the love of Jesus "the Beloved"
Promising them that he would give them
Everything they asked for.
As it could not be otherwise
He jerked off a lot in bed
Taking a liking to the father confessor
Going to confess with him once a week.
--My son, what's wrong with you?
Why so much jerking off?
-It's a fever, Father
That pierces my heart
And that, also, pleases me.
That is why I wear the hair shirt
That you have given me
And I make sacrifices like sleeping naked
On the mattress of the bed
Going to receive communion on my knees
In order to overcome the sin of Lust
That most desired capital sin
And most humiliated by all the saints.
I want to become a saint, Father
To levitate and see God
Like a Saint John of the Cross.
That is why, the first thing I read from the Bible
Is the Song of Songs of Solomon
And, in spiritual exercises
The only thing I read and reread
Is Saint John of the Cross’
“Dark Night of the Soul”
My most beloved poet.
More than once in their prayers
His fellow seminarians
Saw Danielito levitate
Rising to the Lord
Coming to himself
As if lying on sheets of fine linen.
A day of miracle
When his entire fifth-year class
Went to spend the whole day in the country
At the Boca del Asno
Next to the Eresma river in the Mountains of Valsaín
To enjoy its magnificent vegetation
And bathe in one of its pools
Next to the ravine of the river
That comes down from the mountain
Pure, clean and crystalline
He began to urinate in one of them
And by the grace that he carried in his bladder
And his spirit of a true saint
He turned the water of the pool into wine.
All his fellow seminarians
And some children of camping families
Jumping with joy
Went to tell the father superior
That Danielito was a saint
Because he had turned the water of the pool into wine
That they had tasted it
And that it was better than the wine of consecration
Better than the communion wine
Or the “Altaris” Vinun Missae
As one of the smartest ones said.
That they had filled their canteens
To take to their parents
So that they may enjoy it as it should be
And bless them for the grace
Of the seven turns on the road to Boca del Asno
As Teresa de Jesús was blessed
The seven mansions of her book
“The mansions or the interior castle”
Tracing of the spiritual life
In her vision of the soul
Like a diamond in the shape of a castle.
