EVA WALDAUF

Dancing Waves

my love and partner dialing oldies,

WW2 era tunes, on his cell speaker,

rouses my craving to dance with him,

lightheartedly, clasping one another, we venture a spin,

giggling and chuckling at our fumbled attempt

before long, we're escaping to Second Beach,

revel in blazing sun and balmy breezes,

beyond the cusp of September, drifting in

ocean's undulations, tide jumping in seaweed,

crisp, briny waters refreshing our souls

Worship

opalescence, semi-precious stones, amethyst and

aquamarine, hills, arcades and domes,

ancient temple rising up, to the Goddess of beauty,

fertility and love, Aphrodite

now abandoned, unvisited, yet it maintains it's style,

grace and presence, a place to explore silently

and wonder at citizens who created sanctuary,

how they persisted and worshiped ages ago

a living township, windows warmly lit, peoples'

silhouettes in doors and interiors, arched doorways

in high walls, all border the holy place,

hill hulking behind it, almost inaccessible, even so

hundreds of lives flowed through it, as yet many do

Snippets

perhaps entrance, struts, catwalk, large windows,

modern homes, office towers, ship masts at daybreak,

float, predawn yellow, steam on water,

rising up to bleached blue jean sky, blanched,

vanishing again to air or ocean or islands or homes, far below

people implicit through not revealed, still abed in early hours,

their creations seemingly throughout, drawn curves and rule straight,

supports, snippets of function, blurred out, surreal,

against harsh black and pumpkin orange, a place to ponder,

a wisp of fresh air, window open to imagination and dreaming
