MARIA A MIRAGLIA

Like Lilliputians

dressed for the occasion and

with large medals

on their small chests

they sing hymns of peace and

of love

waving happily

parchments with titles

and praises

bowing their heads

blindfolded

they march in single-file

led by a grotesque idol

who goes at a quick pace

playing a flute and

with open eyes

dreaming of moments

of glory and greatness

on his head

wears a crown

with the writing

I am the Great Rhymer

I remain there a little far away

to observe

I think they are Martians

but alas I see

there in the middle a so-and-so

who

has written a famous book about God

next to him the author

of Spirituality and Joy

followed in the line

by someone who long ago

was considered great

for his sublime essay on

Man and his Vices

look at that

he's there too

I say to myself and

in the front row

holding a poster

with the writing

banned everywhere be

MEGALOMANIA

opened the procession of the wise old men

followed by a court of younger ones

who shouted me too me too

what a strange thing I keep repeating to myself

while alone

I return to my life!

The Crow

A crow woke me up

this morning

loud croaking

he was on the windowsill

where my canary

for ancient time

comes at dawns

with his cheery notes

to wish me good morning

I looked around

and said to myself

he will come and

I'll chase away the black bird

that with defiant eyes

looked at me

while hopping among my plants

up and down

I told him to go

far among the trees

where his cries no longer

should have disturbed my awakenings

but he is there

calling to mind his gaze

the evil one

still I will wait for my yellow bird

and for him spread bread crumbs

on the windowsill

Meantime in all its glory

Rises the sun at the horizon

while a sense of mourning

gains its way into my chest

what did the crow do

of my dear bird

but he stopped croaking

as if to tell me that

nothing of the little innocent

he wanted to reveal
