KEN ALLAN DRONSFIELD

KEN ALLAN DRONSFIELD

MY MOM'S ANGEL
(Version 2)

She sat majestically atop the Christmas tree
hair of gold
buttons sparkling
dress of white lace
her wings a silver hue
I watched each year
her being placed
with loving care
upon the tree.
My mother telling Dad,
no, to the left,
now right,
forward.
The years have now come and gone
Mom and Dad have passed away
the Angel sits in her box now
her dress dirty and worn
hair frizzy & unkempt
buttons don't shine.
Memories are made and then put away
as we remember on New Year’s Day
just like Mom's beautiful Angel
radiance never betrayed
shining so very bright
each Christmas.

WHILE THE WIND HOWLS V2

Flames reflected within the cat's eye
a glass of spirits await a parched soul
wool socks warming my chilled feet
the dog listens while the wind howls.
Teapot whistles in a shrieking pitch
inside a little cabin on a snowy night
as loneliness wreaks of rumination
a harsh stare from the napping cat.
Ink flows smooth on a poet’s night;
imagination tickles a swirling mind
image of acute emotional darkness
seeking that shadowed voice inside.
As the cat now naps with an eye open
a dormouse creeps on the window sill
the snow shovel falls with a clamor
everyone jumps as the wind howls.

DUST ON THE PARLOR MIRROR

Boxed peanut brittle
candy cane smiles
pipe smoke rising like
trays of ribbon candy.
Spruce scent wafting
mistletoe in doorways
nutcrackers guarding
gifts around the tree.
Lights flash or chasing in
the holly on the fireplace
Bowl of reddish punch
family and friends arrive
a toast with Korbel's to
enjoy New Year’s Eve.
Holiday memories remain
in dust on the parlor mirror.

  2. Congratulations !!! Your poem, "My Mom's Angel" brought a nostalgic smile to my face. We had one too. That got lost in the moving of here to there, lost in the world of old frizzy haired, tree angels with aged white gowns, turning brown. Excellent!
