GORDANA KARAKASHEVSKA

The Love Of The Wind

In my eyes, spring looks a little like you.

Papsana comes out from under the ice,

from the warm dead earth,

from her bleeding veins.

The cold wind scatters the mountain snow with all its force.

In my eyes, poets have only one love: suffering.

Emily Dickinson and Virginia Woolf would testify,

Sylvia Plath would confirm.

In books, not where I stand, love wins.

Life is exactly what it seems.

There is no happy ending for poets.

They commit suicide or die alone,

or worse,

become famous poets.

Trembling, something breaks in half.

A calm pain lies in my eyes.

Love on the wind pulsates in the clarity of the morning,

tells about the pines and the birds

and erases the age of the world.

The wind is freedom that I fasten to my banner.

Night Rains

It exists at the end of a long street

a house I grew up in when I was a child.

The area is cut by a black and fast water.

There, one winter the wind collided with death

and to this day he holds her with motionless hands.

It seems to me that even now I am listening to my demon

as he weeps upon the deep spring.

Surprised, the earth swallowed the time-lover.

Surprised, the river froze

and to this day she pretends to be dead.

It's a stone. The fire is powerless to touch her heart

from cold and darkness. Night rains shed tears

on the roof of a house at the end of a long street.

The night is blind. The moon is falling over the river and the forest.

The water is lost in the dream colored by death.

The night swallows all the tears.

The hunter-gatherers will change their minds in the spring,

they will not go hunting. To win, that's all I'll have to do

is to turn to face the light. Father, at the end of the day

the sound of your footsteps will be waiting for me

which do not move anymore.
