A New Version Of Myself 

 

Today I reclaim a new version of myself.

 

Not the woman of outward appearance,

but the woman within, the woman of my depths,

the one of my diamond-like crystal

that I kept hidden among the cracks of love and heartbreak.

 

That woman is young, vibrant, untouched,

without cracks or bruises.

 

That woman will no longer be shaken by life

with its worn-out thorns.

 

That woman is the one who is reborn each day without breaking,

with new certainties and hopes.

 

That woman writes about stories of the soul

with a steady pen along rough paths

among stones and furrows of time.

 

Today I am a renewed, empowered woman,

who faces life with a resounding voice,

for I have the courage to wage hard battles,

overcome obstacles, and with my voice,

with my verses lift stones,

join the whistling of the wind among the hills,

and go triumphant through streets and skyscrapers.

 

Because I lost my fear of speaking out.

 

Because my being a woman

is different.

 

That's all.

 

Signs

 

My signs tear through my nocturnal universe,

scratch my canvas with lines and curves,

mold my center / my taciturn hemisphere.

 

Where do these symbols come from

 

that corner my mind

like tortuous circuits?

That haunt me in my velvety moons,

and in the oak treehouse

where I have been left without light in agonizing weeping.

 

Signs / zephyrs embedded in the cosmos,

 

in the seraphic time of my solitudes,

I long to enrich it with your pristine legacies

LUISA CAMERE QUIROZ: Peru / USA A lover of literature, she was born in Lima, Peru, graduated in Education at the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos, obtained her California Credential and directed Early Childhood Education Programs for 30 years in Peru and the USA. In her golden years she dedicated herself exclusively to literature. She is a teacher, plastic artist, literacy critic, poet, narrator, cultural manager, both in Peru and in the USA, California. -She is co-author of the books 'Renacer' and 'Remar' from the CIAM of La Molina.
