Song Of The Small River

 

A small river wandered through the valley,

Neither proud nor loud was she,

Yet mountains bowed to hear her story

As she journeyed to the sea

 

She carried petals from the meadows,

Moonlight from the silent night,

And in her clear and patient waters

Every star would leave its light

 

Children laughed beside her margins,

Willows kissed her passing face,

And even stones grew smooth and tender

By the touch of her embrace

 

So may my heart become a river,

Calm beneath both joy and pain,

Giving beauty to the thirsty

And returning love again

 

The Whispering Linden

 

Beneath the old linden tree I stood,

Where summer stitched gold through the leaves,

And the wind carried forgotten songs

Across the fields and quiet streams

 

The earth remembered every footstep,

Every dream buried in its breast,

While swallows drew silver circles

Across the fading western crest

 

I asked the tree about tomorrow,

About the roads I could not see.

It answered only with its fragrance,

A gentle lesson: simply be

 

For all that blooms must learn to wither,

And every dusk prepares the dawn;

Yet love remains within the branches

Long after birds and light have gone

ANKICA ANCHIE BISKUPOVIĆ is a Croatian poet, writer, novelist, essayist, humanist, satirist, aphorist, artist, and cultural ambassador born in Split, Croatia. Her literary work encompasses poetry, prose, novels, essays, short stories, children's literature, satire, and aphorisms, promoting peace, cultural diversity, humanitarian values, and intercultural dialogue. She was recognized among the 100 Most Influential Literary Figures in the World 2025 by Barcelona Adabia and is the recipient of several international literary distinctions, including the Naji Naaman Literary Prizes 2026 – Creativity Prize, Literary Icon Award 2026, Second Prize at the International Haiku Competition 2025 (IKA), and Third Prize at the International Literary Competition in Italy 2026 for her work Ciò che Caino non sa (What Cain Does Not Know). Her poem The Abyss Awaits Us received international recognition at the KNS Sarajevo literary festival. On the Benches of the City – Selected Short Story The Bench That Remembers. The story was selected for public presentation through QR plaques installed on benches in Zagreb’s Ribnjak Park, bringing literature closer to public spaces and everyday life. Her works have been translated into multiple languages and published in international anthologies, literary journals, magazines, and cultural publications across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Ankica serves as Ambassador for Croatia within African Poetry Giant, Delegate of the Panorama International Literature Festival (PILF 2026), Member of the Diplomatic Corps of the Global Federative Union of Letters (UFGL), VIP Member of CIESART, Member of WE Premier Authors Club, and Member of W Poet – World Poet and Literature Organisation.
