Venus's Rings

 

Venus’s rings on my neck have been shown,

I’ve worn them since turning eighteen.

My figure has not any slenderer grown,

The cause of these rings is unseen.

A secret for me and a secret for mom,

She doesn't have rings of this kind,

She sees in these wrinkles no drama or qualm,

And those who judge them must be blind.

With age I have grown much more clever and wise,

My manners and tastes rearranged,

I look at this world with more joy in my eyes,

And Venus’s will is unchanged.

Perhaps the great Goddess of love and of grace

Beheld a true sister in me,

And took urgent steps in this beautiful embrace,

To play out her game, fast and free.

I won't rack my brains, and I won't lose my peace,

No nerves will be wasted or blown,

What’s given by God brings my soul a release,

I love who I am, fully grown.

 

Life Is A Reward

 

Our world is anxious, yet carefree,

Our age is short, a stormy sea,

Though life is hard and flies away,

There is no dearer prize today.

For some, a hundred years will run,

For others, plans are never done,

But all of us who live and breathe,

Walk down the gangplank from our birth.

How can we turn the clock around,

To heal the path where pain was found,

To keep our youth, its vibrant grace,

With wiser minds and fairer face?

How can we learn to pause in time,

To blend with nature’s peaceful chime,

To never lose, to never stray,

Yet stay ourselves along the way?

Life leads us down its chosen course,

Fate flows just like a river's source,

And time is water in our hands,

But sins chase us through all the lands.

Both sins and feats hold mighty sway,

With giant strides they find their way,

So do not sin, let virtue guide,

Live honestly. Life is the prize!
