DEBBIE EMBREY
A FEW WORDS OF PRAYER
I humble myself
and thank God above
for friends like you
and for His love
May you be blessed
both by day and night
and may peace follow
to make things right
Good night
and many blessings
EMPTY
you take away ink
from the writer
all you have left
is an empty shell
a void essence
you pull the trigger
on what's left
of her life
you ripped her soul
as no one or nothing
else could ever do
she lies there in tears
now dried on her skin
she has no voice
it was taken away
a writer without ink
is a forbidden fool
because skies darkened
stars no longer shine
nothing can fill her
or revive the spirit
that was once there
she is empty
THE DRIFTER
he came drifting into town
with no particular destination
nothing in his pockets
but his I.D. and a dime
the sack he carried on his back
had clothes, a blanket
an empty mug
and a raggedy pair of gloves
he worked for food
and a roof over his head
poor as an old church mouse
but he always had a smile
he might stay overnight
or a few days ~ a week
didn't want to leave a place
by wearing out his welcome
and just as soon as he came
he was out the door
once again he headed
on the lonesome road
the back of his head
showed all his pride
a good man ~ caring
leaving only memories
as the years flew by
I still recall the traveler
and the stories he told
with a vibrant face
no one could ever say
they weren't intrigued
with the drifter
