RANJANA SHARAN SINHA
A MILLION MILES AWAY
Miles away--
Bloom beauteous roses,
Fragrance reach the soul;
Miles away--
Sweet whispers arise,
Heart deciphers the words;
Miles away--
Stirs a hazy shadow,
Eyes recognise the face;
Miles away--
Melodies on wings,
I set my feet to dance;
Miles away--
Sorrow descends,
tears come to my eyes;
Miles away--
Burns a candle,
Light reaches my path;
Miles away--
Your joys and pains,
I take a leap of empathy:
Miles away--
A transparent moment,
I get transported into your core!
Miles away--
I know your pain of loving me
As if it was my own:
Love wells up
About to flow out!
ACHROMATIC AUTUMN
Monsoon morphs into autumn:
Trees have begun
turning to golden brown,
caramel leaves--
Pale,yellow,amber, cinnamon,
begin to fall;
some leaves burn
with shades of russet and red.
But Autumn removes
the fiery cloak of colours
And takes a dip in the river:
Lo, he is reborn in a new form--
Immaculate,white, pristine
like the snowy kash flowers
blooming on the bank,
swaying in the breeze,
bobbing their heads
under fleecy white clouds!
Achromatic Autumn touches
The petals of parijat--
Aromatic and white
over an orange tube!
Autumn...colourless autumn,
full of fragrance and charm,
reminding me of a little girl
in a garden picking up
parijat in her hanky:
I see Parijat dropping
one by one at dawn
covering the ground;
The air is redolent with perfume!
I breathe in the sweet
nostalgic fragrance:
My childhood sleeps
on a soft expanse of
snow white petals of Parijat!
TANKA
yes the time stands still
amid the stunning splendours
some fire like roses
rainbow of your ceaseless thoughts
purple must of blue roses
*
iconic morning
lo unblocks her abundance
The world is swept off
As she pouts her sun-red lips
Love leaps out like a dolphin
*
pink purple-blue red
the clouds in the zircon sky
untranslatable
delicacies of colours
become butterflies of joy
*
on my mind's vast slate
i feel many thoughts running
looped and connected
they flow like cursive writing
The cascade brings smiles and cry
*
your small round image
pops up on the memory screen
feelings touch the chord
i'm lost in a maze of thought
why to drag it down
CLIFFS OF TIME
The rainy season has waned,
virescent hues no longer in sight;
In ambers and bronzes
sleep autumnal leaves
stirred by soft susurration of
breeze!
The leaves and l are old;
wish to borrow wings
and fly fast
reaching the cliffs of time
where histories of life are
etched--
obscure and bright!
In the bronze distance
I find effigies of grief
and animated dolls of happiness:
The two of them meet
and shake hands
in the quietest space--
I become a stoic
amid kaleidoscope of seasons!
DAY
BREAKS
Day breaks in the city and
continues--
Birds on the big baniyan start
chirping
To wake up their old buddies-- the
beggars,
But it's lost in the traffic sound
piercing.
The woman picks up her kid and the
pot,
The man on the crutch comes to the
signal.
Some sadhus, the bearded men in
saffron
Sit on the pavement with combs in
their hands
Soon, it's Office time and the
building brown
Sees an influx of men and officers;
Under the huge tree assemble the
youth--
Unemployed with files face the
bitter truth.
