Father
Dedicated to Saman Abbas
I spoke another language
went to school
In a new country
that had greeted us
and given you a job
a country where to love
is not a sin
But still tied up
to my mother's breast
you promised me
to a friend of yours
and at my refusal
you Father
who had given me life
you also denied it to me
And you Mother
hidden in your niqab
you didn't want to look
beyond your veil
to plant and water
seeds for a new life
and without a word
left me to go
Now
in the garden
of our house
where innocent I used to play
you breathe the acrid
pungent smell
of my rotten flesh
the songs of the sparrows
that play hide and seek
among the cherry trees
will no longer wake me
to new days
Welcomed by angels
I look at you from up here
and still I feel
to love you

Have You Ever
Don't look at him as your enemy
Yes at the man who speaks another language
Who has a different
colour
Of the skin
Have you ever looked into his eyes
When a pain pierces his heart
Or touched his tears
To see if they are less warm
Than yours
Have you ever asked him
When he is in love
How he feels about that woman
That seems to you
So different from yours
Have you ever observed him
When watching a sunset
Or when for the first time
In his arms he has
The newborn son
Talk with him
Ask him questions
If you smile at him
He will respond with a hug
And if as a castaway you will land
On his remote island
He will offer you some food
And quench your thirst

Prime Mover
Me a traveller
of the world
going here and there
to enjoy all its beauties
and see in each of them
the hand of the Prime Mover
So deeply curious I am
that often stop my steps
to catch even the tiniest
wonders of the creation
and observe their colours
sizes and shapes
going like a butterfly
on the most beautiful flowers
and feeling to be down here
to praise all things humane eyes
time after time ignore
The blue waters
refreshing my limbs
when the sun spreads its warm rays
the trees tops offering their shelters
hidden in them the nests
of the newborn birds
and their melodious chirping
enchanting the passers-by
and the ants
that in rows
carry on their work
for the long winter months
the stars reflecting their lights
in the rivers and seas
painting magic landscapes
for sailors far from their homes
The world as
the largest museum
and me that loves arts
in all their expressions and forms
the author I love the most
is the One, the only
who is up there.
His masterpieces have no equal
but maybe
far away in the celestial cosmos

Miraglia’s works and although these elements are found in some of the
exceptional works by modern writers, blending them together seems a challenge
for many, where Maria is found to be successful applying them into her poems.
Author of anthologies in Italian, English or both languages She is recipient of
numerous national and international awards and recognition.
Best Wishes!
