Oppression torture torment

What if it ends?

Poverty hunger and ignorance

Rudeness and bullying

What if it ends, oh no!

 

Prosperity peace justice

What if they come?

Freedom abundance courtesy

What if the longed-for ones come

Democracy and freedom

Oh no! No!

Are the nightmares of the ruler

Neither poverty nor ignorance

should end

Neither prosperity peace justice

Nor the longed-for ones should come

It should go as it has come

 

Those who want to change this order

Call themselves revolutionaries

Don't listen,

it's easy to label What they say is entirely false

 

It comes and goes, doesn't last till tomorrow

We say first they were terrorists, then they were infidels

The topic is forgotten and goes away...

Bu düzeni değiştirmek isteyen

Devrimciyim der kendine

Dinlemeyin, yaftalanması kolaydır

Külliyen yalandır dedikleri

 

Gelip geçer yarına kalmaz  

Önce teröristti sonra kafirdi deriz

Unutulur gider konu...

 

Democracy

 

Democracy is beautiful

yet As soon as the elected one arrives

Your democracy declares this much

 

We get angry

Can there be so much democracy?

 

Asking angrily

Just how much is enough?

 

We don't know, don't get upset

However, much you say

That much democracy

would be more than plenty for us…

Seçilen  gelir gelmez

Demokrasiniz işte şu kadar diyor

 

Kızıyoruz

O kadar demokrasi mi olur?

 

Soruyor, kızarak

Ya ne kadar olur?

 

Biz bilmeyiz sen kızma

Sen ne kadar dersen bize

O kadar demokrasi çok bile olur…

To all free hearts and pens

Various traps are set

 

largest palaces

There are the largest courthouses

dungeons overflow

The biggest prisons are not enough

 

In no regime

There is nothing like it

So much reign

It only happens in democracies...

Zindanlar dolar taşar

Yetmez en büyük hapishaneler

 

Hiç bir rejimde

Yoktur benzeri

Bu kadar saltanat

Ancak demokrasilerde olur...

Dr. Barbaros İrdelmen: Born in 1952, he has been living in Istanbul for 48 years, active in his profession. His selected poems have been translated into English, Greek and Spanish in national and international anthologies, poetry festivals and selection books. He is a member of the Poetry Columnist of the Literature Magazine, the Editorial Board of the Kirpi Literature and Think Journal, the Research and Publication Board of the Papirus Journal, and the Writers' Union of Turkey.
