RAJASHREE MOHAPATRA

A Poet's Pen

Oh dear,

Take away whatever I possess

But spare my pen

For there, my soul rests

A verse reverberates in the lonely dale

Speaking of a poet living there long long ago

Who used to breathe through his pen,

Whose pulse throbbed with it

And flow of it's ink

Was unlike the flow of blood in his veins.

Sitting on the bank of a ravine

Beyond the greyish, broken lines of the hills,

The poet used to write verses

With his golden pen

where mirages were set to swim

and the wind used to sing,

Even now

The poet is said to be alive through his pen.

The pages of his book flutter during rain

He breaths in his verses,

His emotions make for him

The path way for his struggle for existence.

The White Crane

The white crane, that flies high today in the vacuity of the azure sky,

Who can ascertain

It will not be lost in the vacuum space tomorrow?

The sky is already covered with a canopy of dust

It's dark as hell outside

For the sake of a small beam of light from the horizon,

The Trust and Faith alive

Keeping the door ajar.

Towards the dawn

May it so happen

That its existence in between the shadows of incorporeal

Vaporize in trances.

As we know

No activity stops here for any missing indispensable one or otherwise

We're just skating on the icesheets

Just as the dry leaves float

In the flood water.

Look and observe how despite

The crane continues to furrow in the vacuity overhead.

Breaking Tides

Moon wilts in the sky

So do the tides in the Oceans

The tides break in to ripples

And gently smile on hitting the shore

Unlike we look for life in the dark coast

While wandering ashore.

We try to gather all precious stones of harmony

We melt the mightier and crescent icebergs of distrust

Through a miraculous symphony of faith

Our shadows grow bigger and bigger to reach a multitude height

Here millions suffer and turn to stones

Walls of skeletons washed with tears of innocent soul

Alas!

We never appreciate nor acknowledge

That we are on a short sojourn

On this planet earth...
