If I Could Hold Your Hand

I know you’ve been away—from me so long
I only want to know —what’s on your mind
so I sat me down to—write you this song
I’ve been moving through life—like I’ve been blind
I’ve been waiting for you—such a long time
Just to hear you say that—you are now mine

I like the clothes you wear, the way you wear your hair
for your sweet tempting smiles, I’d walk a hundred miles
I like your big bright eyes, I ache to hear you sigh
I want to touch you mind, I’d never be unkind
If I could hold your hand, I’d make you understand

I am not hurt just frayed—‘round the edges
tried to peer into your—cape of sadness
skirt around the cracked—and broken ledges
try to understand your—pain and rudeness
I’ve been waiting for you—such a long time
Just to hear you say that—you are now mine

I like the clothes you wear, the way you wear your hair
for your sweet tempting smiles, I’d walk a hundred miles
I like your big bright eyes, I ache to hear you sigh
I want to touch your mind, I’d never be unkind
If I could hold your hand, I’d make you understand

MY ANGEL

The song of the storm whispering clear
Tears of an angel are dripping down
I hear her voice so lofty yet near
I see her face fraught with saddened frown

Scatterings of hope kicked all about
The hunger of time is rapacious
Plucked pieces of mind they drift and shout
But love that you find is contagious

Tumbling of rumbling thunder I hear
Eyes of the night all hidden from sight
Melody of winds sing in my ear
Nothing in life can do me with fright

Something echoing around the bend
Murmurs flitting on the evening breeze
Life is a breath a hymn on the wind
Touch of her hand sets my heart at ease

Through old memories I must rummage
A restless rambler has to be free
A flower sings in every language
My angel always watched over me

LOVE IS IN THE ONE WHO LOVES

I can’t see the air but I know that it’s there
It fills my sails moves this vessel along
The best things in life are to love and to share
When we give of ourselves we surely grow strong
Just one thing I have to keep in my head
And remember what old Plato said:

“Love is not
In the one who is loved
Love is in the one who loves.”

When the curtain falls and the dance has ended
And I find myself in a another time and place
All the old deeds and misgivings upended
Dancing to a different tune with another face
Just one thing I have to keep in my head
And remember what old Plato said:

“Love is not
in the one who is loved
Love is in the one who loves.”
