RICHARD DOIRON

Love And Sugar Water

To the uninitiated, sugar water

might as well be just any water,

as the dissolved sugar cannot

be seen. But the hummingbird

instinctively gravitates to it for

sustenance.

Love we embody is not always

perceived by one and all, but

the discerning eye sees a world

potentially transformed in each

and every beat of the heart

attuned to its essence.

An Angel In His Eyes

You are an angel in his eyes

an ageless wonder, come what may;

such symphonies inside your sighs,

his tongue is tied, no words to say;

but still and all you'd recognize

the way he's moved again today.

You are the surge upon the sea,

an earthly rush inciting rhyme;

your guiding light his destiny,

he's home again yet one more time;

your tender tone such melody

assigned to you a slant sublime.

You are to him the draft of dawn

that lights his world and makes it whole;

denied the sun he'll journey on,

your clarion call that's in control -

sweet promises to build upon,

your seal's embossed inside his soul.

Longing

Yes, it is true that I have longed,

longed like few could have done,

I who have tasted the budding

rose in spring,

yet never to drink my fill,

often lost to the creeping shadows

that also filled my days.

Yes, it is true that I have longed,

longed with such a longing

that I wept tomorrow

into my yesterday for the today

that was made for such as I,

I who have tasted

the salt of the ocean in a drop

of soft summer rain.

Tripping Over Epiphanies

Let us long to be in fields that are rife

with flowers, whereas each petal is

as a bead on a rosary, and each sector

is as a litany of prayers.

Let us long to walk where nature

itself is surely awe-struck, a breeze

gently blowing, the senses stirred

into the deeper awakening.

Let us long to touch upon the Essence

in the way that birds and bees do,

with butterflies ablaze leading us all

into silent supplication.

Let us long to be humbled once more,

whereas every single footstep

proposes a cautionary measure, lest

we should trip over epiphanies.

O Wondrous Love

O wondrous love, sing me into

sweet surrender with the music

from your harmonious heart,

you who cradle my universe

in the palms of your healing

hands and who adorn my world

with a beauty borne in the very

depths of your innermost soul.

O wondrous love, move me into

a silent space with the soothing

sounds emanating from the core

of your being, sounds sufficient

as to lull the gods themselves

into a state of utter ecstasy,

sounds to render a mere mortal

such as I into a sacerdotal state.
