SUNIL SHARMA

SUNIL SHARMA

SUMMER BREEZE

In the meadows,
The wind sings a song
Heard in summers in Europe.

A kind of rustling of silk
In a well-appointed boudoir;

The rushing of a rapid breath
Playing with the trees, in a dark clump
In Billund, Denmark.

The breeze rising joyously
Like the musical notes to be
Played fast, briskly and with gusto
By a mystical hands.

PHANTOM ROAD

The moon-lit
Country -lane
Ahead.

Hungrily hugged
By moving shadows.
Music of the
Silvery trees
Fusing with the hum
Of a dying river---
Heard far-off
In a troubled sleep
By an urban mind.

PREMONITIONS

A broad leaf
Fine-veined
Rusted-brown
Wind-blown.

Gets stuck
In the left-hand wiper of a
Car on a
Narrow strip of an uneven road,
Officially called a highway.

The leaf in agony, flutters, gasps.

An insect caught in a spider-web in a
Damp room, strange sounds on
Moonless nights.

A kissing- web in the dark place
Eerie sensation; Crawling of facial skin!

A fresh burst, toxic air
It escapes.
Death-pale, grinning, that receding leaf.
Huge shivers down the spine
Of the passenger,
Suffering from pain
in the L3- L4 segment.

IN THE COLD

A pigeon perched on the cable
Shrunk within its grey feathers
Head bent inside the underbelly
To beat the cold draughts.

It is 10 am and 10- degree Celsius.

A man, grey stubble, head bent, sits hunched
On the tiled pavement in the Connaught Place
In a sun that hardly warms the air
He clutches a torn quilt around shrunk shoulders
Blankly stares at the high-rises and frenzied vehicles.
Both--- pathetic figures---un-cared!

Welcome, dear disenfranchised to Delhi of the new Moguls!
