APRILIA ZANK
THE RAIN EVOCATORS
the rain evocators
dance
with soft naked feet
in the blazing dust
juvenile bodies
covered with foliage
under the fiery sun
may the rain
come
the long-awaited
may the rain
wash away
the rotting seagulls
from the shore
may the rain
drive up the sap
in barren branches
and unleash the springs
in dried up fountains
may the rain
rinse off the dust
from blind turning eyes
THE VISITOR
this house
so peaceful
with its wooden panels
polished by weathers
the heat of summer
winter frost
the ripeness of autumn
with grapes
hanging from the gutter
and pathways
chequered with quinces
and wall nuts
they had found bones
when they broke it down
to build it anew
bones of man –
stories went around
about a merchant
who came from afar
after completed trade
seeking for night shelter
on his way home
which he never reached
sometimes at night
watching the stars
so much closer here
than anywhere else
I hear a moan
a clink of steel
an owl call
a woman wailing
in the distance
of four generations
TWILIGHT
walking around the lake
brooding on yellow lilies
a sense of solitude
drips on algae-coated
obsolete nymphs
behind wire fences
the sun fades away
trickles down
light dissipates
like burning silk
I call a name –
in a void of answers
birds flutter away
hurry
to precarious shelters
