MARIAN DZIWISZ

Non Omnia Moriar

NOT ALL I DIE

                 [Horace, Ode]

Unchangeable are the laws and principles,

both those on earth,

as well as those in the Cosmos

and in them the law of circular motion.

Therefore, one must die as much as necessary,

leaving such a trace

like a wheel that rolls on the ground,

until it falls off its axis

and does not crumble.

The body must die when it loses its breath

And to the earth it returns, like everything

that is born of it

and which from it drew nourishment for life

For its development.

But after every existence there always remains:

DNA and after people, memory and conscience.

They survive in words,

the memory of people and everything,

with which you have interacted during

- your life,

like in the wheat grains

from which you bake bread

- for consumption, there is everything

that from the earth and the air

the plant has drawn for life.

You must take care to leave in them,

truth, goodness, beauty and peace,

and not evil and poisoned traces.

For what you have created

and what you do not take with you to the grave,

will become karma for future generations

and it depends on this whether they will curse you,

or bless you.

For death is,

keeping yourself within yourself

- for oneself, but also:

the surrender of corporeality to the body of the earth,

and the image and deeds to the memory

of the living as if they were fossils.

Death And Murder

Everything that lives must die one day,

because even the brightest star,

loses its energy and collapses,

to end up in the Black Hole of the Abyss.

And man, who is aware of the rights of life,

when he loses his strength and does not know the way to keep it,

knows that the time is coming to say goodbye to his loved ones

and to wait in peace until the heart has lost its rhythm

and the memory, losing its power, will preserve

- the most beautiful moments.

However, not everyone is given

to die in silence and it often happens

that man, like an animal, kills man,

imitating the laws of nature governing the earth.

and on it death is not necessary,

is associated with black and purple

 - and these with the laws of weather and storm.

For when steam rises to the sky

And forms thick and heavy clouds,

the sun's radiance takes on a crimson hue;

The wind carries the dust - whirls it away;

Mixes them with steam, creating a black hole,

in which, like anger among men,

with a roar of clouds makes itself known,

until, at last, the lightning, illuminates the spaces,

it strikes a tree, a rock or a stream,

trees, buildings

- sometimes kills people.

Hail destroys life in our crops;

the wind uproots trees;

and destroys everything it meets on its way.

So, what if after a storm,

a rainbow on the clouds

- announcing peace,

But it is incapable of restoring

a broken life.

Someone will wisely say:

- such are the natures laws;

it has the power to give birth - it has the right to kill.

But it is said that wisdom distinguishes a man,

that he has reason in his head

and can remedy misfortunes,

by fighting disease;

watching for fire,

is kept in check;

and the water to the houses flows through the pipes.

Thus, can man,

stop sudden death.

He can also accelerate

And like the storm - destroy and kill.

So can all power,

which dresses itself in purple,

like the sky before the storm,

the blackness of its troops,

like threatening clouds

gathers around itself,

nourishes them, feeds them, armours them

keeps them ready.

Lawyers - ready,

to pass judgment,

as for Socrates and as for Jesus;

executioners ready to kill

and finally, an army ready to strike;

to kill thousands or even millions

to seize land and amass treasures;

to save his life and power,

and unable to accept death;

his body in sarcophagi

for eternity.

Memory of himself in songs, chronicles;

holy litanies, but not of those,

who were killed; burnt at the stake

and in crematoria

- who did not live to see their own death

in peace and silence.

Threnody IV

In memory of our sons Grześ

 and Rafałek, who passed away too soon

Everything in us froze, like an eternal waiting,

 Entwined in the web of the evil spider.

The cursed Errata's thread has broken the frail,

taking away what has yet to come;

The cry it did not allow to listen;

fulfilled the joy;

Has carried away into the sadness of irrevocable silence;

did not allow to name, to hug, to recall.

Dawn usually brings joy but this one was black,

as if the endless night knew no end.

 We stretched out our arms in vain.

A corner of my flat would remain empty

- things, little things, were meant to serve you,

today they remain in vain mourning

- a reminder of a moment

that no one has yet been able to name

and yet the dawn was near.

Already a cry was heard in the awakening of the night.

Which suddenly fell silent.

Only the pain and your departing figure remained;

dawn, dust, darkness,

the paralysis of feelings with endless despair.
