The Scent Of Childhood

 

Leaning against a cold wall

she wandered into childhood days.

Before her eyes

was the image of the two of them

sharing sweet snacks,

sitting next to each other.

She smelled freshly cut grass again,

and,

from the warmth of his shoulder,

a sweet shiver

ran through her body.

Carried away by memories,

for a while she heard nothing,

except their laughter,

carefree, childish.

When she finally awoke

from that brief reverie,

her step was easy,

like a girl's.

All day long.

 

Miris djetinjstva

 

Naslonjena na hladan zid

zalutala je u dane djetinjstva.

Pred očima joj je bila

slika njih dvoje

kako dijele slatke zalogaje

sjedeći jedno do drugog.

Ponovo osjeti

kako miriše trava

svježe pokošena

i

od topline njegovog ramena,

slatka jeza

kroz tijelo joj je prođe.

Nošena uspomenama,

jedno vrijeme ništa ne ču,

osim njihovog smijeha,

bezbrižnog, dječijeg.

Kad se naposlijetku prenu

iz tog kratkog sanjarenja,

njen korak je bio lak,

kao u djevojčice.

Cijeloga dana.

SELMA KOPIĆ b. Šehanović is a professor of Bosnian language and literature, born on April 13, 1962 in Tuzla. Author of school textbooks, reviewer, trainer at seminars, lecturer…Many awards for poems and stories that are represented in anthologies and magazines in BiH and abroad.
