DONNA MCCABE

Ageless Love

I love you in this life time

As I have in lifetimes before

You bring down my defenses

And make my spirit soar.

We are two hearts eternally entwined

Since the dawn of time

Where one went the other followed

Not to far behind.

You are my guide

The guardian of my heart and soul

You are my sense of completion

I alone love you.

Autumn

Darkness falls much quicker

At this time of year

The heat of the summer cools

As the winds begin to swirl.

Autumn the callous crusader

Whips up all the leaves

A host of multi colours

Floating on the breeze

Skeletal trees appear half naked

As day loses more time to night

Cold weather is now a regular visitor

On a never-ending fight.

Animals forage to stock pile food

With a frenzied air

Winter is nipping at their heels

Hibernation will soon be their only care.

Earth’s Heartbeat

Destructive to creation

To our mother earth

Her heartbeat is surly fading

Through the concoctions of our curse

Our track record is really against us

With all this pollution and felling of trees

Through ignorance and selfishness

We have brought her too her knees

The impact of global warming

Speaks of total doom and gloom

We may well pay the price in the future

If we don't do something soon.

Seasons Change Like Fashion

Nature wears a cloak of green

Fresh with the joys of spring

Surveying this wondrous scene

Really makes my heart sing.

Nature wears a cloak of fun

Multi coloured in summer fashion

Holidays, fun and freedom

Pursuing one’s passions.

Nature wears a cloak of gold

Rich with autumn tones

The weather changes dramatically

Chilling us to the bone.

Nature wears a cloak of white

With a Christmas theme

Trees and decorations

Enhance the religious and party scenes.

Remembrance

To the soldiers who died where they fell

Who fought against oppression

Torture and hell

Your bravery was astounding

And your valour true

You fought for Queen and country

Your red, white and blue

The front line must have been a harrowing sight

Whatever the country

Whatever the war

All the terror, all the pain

We can only imagine what you saw

Your blood spill was the nations pain

Your heroic acts are remembered every year

In the poppy wreaths on cenotaphs

And in our hearts and tears.

Heroic Hearts

An army of young men marching

To retain power where it has been misused

To protect and serve the innocent

Who are being tortured and abused

This dance of death

It shows on their flesh

The horrors they have seen

This reality is no comparison

To that childhood dream

And yet they stay

And bravely fight

For justice and for peace

Hoping with all their heart

That one fine day

This war will cease.
