The Crow

 

A crow woke me up

this morning

loud croaking

he was on the windowsill

where my canary

for ancient time

comes at dawns

with his cheery notes

to wish me good morning

 

I looked around

and said to myself

he will come and

I'll chase away the black bird

that with defiant eyes

looked at me

while hopping among my plants

up and down

 

I told him to go

far among the trees

where his cries’ do no longer

have disturbed my awakenings

but he is there

calling to the mind his gaze

the evil one

still I will wait for my yellow bird

and for him spread bread crumbs

on the windowsill

 

Meantime in all its glory

Rises the sun at the horizon

while a sense of mourning

gains its way into my chest

what did the crow did

of my dear bird

but he stopped croaking

as if to tell me that

nothing of the little innocent

he wanted to reveal

When The Chalice Rises

 

No one knows

if the sacred narrative is

like the church fathers

tell us

Collected events

from distant a past

reported by rumors

that speak of hell and heaven

of Cain and Abel

of the Magdalen

the snake and the apple

Everything suggests

imaginary stories

for foolish and gullible people

told in an archaic language

the modernity refuses

to understand

But when on the altar

the chalice rises

in reverent silence

bow the bystanders  their heads

I wish you were an albatross

to be sure of your love

exclusive and forever

 

look at you hopping

while wooing me

or unfolding your large wings

when you near

to close them around me

in a sweet gesture of love

MARIA MIRAGLIA: Educationist, poet, translator, peace activist, Maria A. Miraglia was born and lives in Italy. She collaborates for poetry with numerous national and international newspapers and magazines. Her poems have been translated into several foreign languages and are collected in numberless anthologies all over the world.  Dr Maria Miraglia is often a welcome guest of international events for poetry. Beauty and profundity are the most important characteristic of Maria Miraglia’s works and although these elements are found in some of the exceptional works by modern writers, blending them together seems a challenge for many, where Maria is found to be successful applying them into her poems.
